Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore was established in 1964 as Indore University. It is a statutory University of the State Government of Madhya Pradesh by an act of legislature of Madhya Pradesh. The University is recognized by the State Government and the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. In 1988, the university was renamed after the famous and benevolent ruler of Malwa i.e. Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar.
The main objective of the institute is to provide specialized high quality education by integrating traditional and modern scientific techniques in teaching-learning process through on-campus, distance and part-time programs offered in a flexible and modular manner. Its mission is to produce world-class professionals with excellent analytical, communication skills, team building spirit and ability to work in cross-cultural environment.

It’s a matter of immense pleasure that Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore erstwhile University of Indore, established in 1964, is going to complete its 50th year of establishment, educational commitment and services. It is to humbly submit that the University has come a long way since its inception. What was conceived as an institution primarily dedicated to the teaching and learning of Basic Sciences has grown into a vivacious, multi-disciplinary hub of varied academic activities. The University is now catering the higher education needs of the people by enhanced jurisdiction to eight districts, mostly tribal dominated, of the Indore division. These districts are namely, Indore, Dhar, Jhabua, Khandwa, Khargone, Burhanpur, Alirajpur and Barwani. Starting with a few departments, the university is now expanded into 16 faculties, 27 University Teaching Departments (UTDs), 14 Centres and 270 Government, Government aided and Private Colleges, which serve around 1,80,000 students ever year. The university is committed for imparting value based education through its well qualified human resources, with diversified course structure and inter-disciplinary research. Living up to its responsibility as a nodal centre of higher learning, research, and innovation, the university has since completed its initially identified mandate and has further attained a number of milestones successfully.
